Perry is she is Chicago native born to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. The character Jackie Harris was played by her mom in both of her two appearances on Roseanne. In fear of stress, her parents were not keen to let her pursue acting before she turned 18. Perry was shy in high-school and did not act. She began acting in the year 2000 at Northwestern University to gain friends after she was transferred to the university from Boston University. Perry was able to land tiny TV roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent following her graduation. The feeling of homelessness, however, caused her to move to California again where she began to work on stage. Perry performed with her mom in The Other Place at Broadway at the end of 2013. Her father Kevin McKidd performed in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie alongside her in 2015. Perry appeared nine times in the ABC drama The Family, in 2016. She had a regular role in the ABC political drama Scandal, starring her dad. The same year her character was cast a younger version of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again playing a young model of the mother's role. The role was given an audition to the actress, regardless of the fact that she was a cousin with the character.
