Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco is an American-Canadian artist and singer. She has released more than 20 albums. Her songs are classified by the label as alternative and folk. However, they also are influenced by hip-hop, jazz and punk. Ani DiFranco is widely recognized as an icon of women's rights and Grammy-winning artist is considered to be the first founder of DIY music. She was one of the first artists to start their own labels in the year 90. DiFranco's parents, Elizabeth (Ross), a previous student at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Dante Americo DiFranco met each other while they were both attending. Her father was of Italian ancestry and her mom was a Montreal native. Ani Difrasco wrote and recorded the hit song "32 Flavors". The track is available on the sixth album Not a Pretty Girl by Ani DiFranco, which was released in the year 1996. The song is featured in the soundtrack to the Canadian romance film Better Than Chocolate from 1999. In 2013, DiFranco apologised after it was announced that she was hosting an event for three days at an old Louisiana plantation for slaves. The majority of us (including us) did not feel moved by her cancellation. DiFranco issued a further apology days later.
